General Dentistry Treatment Options
The Waunakee family dentist offers a variety of comprehensive general dentistry treatments, from cleanings that make your teeth sparkle to corrective dental procedures that restore your dental health. The following are some of the general dental treatments that Dr. Stukenberg offers to protect or improve his patients’ oral health:
- Semi-annual dental exams
- Dental X-rays
- Routine cleanings
- Fluoride treatments
- Tooth-colored fillings
- Root canal assessments
- Periodontal (gum) disease evaluations
If you are suffering from tooth pain, have a concern about your oral health or simply have not been to the dentist in a while, contact our office for help. We will perform a dental exam and take dental X-rays before recommending any necessary treatment to maintain or improve your oral health.
If you require root canal therapy or treatment for various stages of periodontal disease, Dr. Stukenberg will refer you to a specialist (e.g., endodontist for root canal therapy, periodontist for gum disease) that he knows and trusts, who treats those specific dental problems every day, all day. He will also provide patient education along the way, showing you ways you can care for your oral health at home to help prevent tooth decay and gum disease.
How Does Dental Treatment Differ for Kids and Adults?
Children have different oral health needs than adults. They may not yet have a full set of their primary teeth when they start visiting Dr. Stukenberg, or they may practice certain childhood habits that can affect their dental health, such as sucking their thumb or fingers. Children may benefit from fluoride or sealant treatment or require orthodontic work as they enter adolescence.
In addition, young children may have a hard time sitting still in the dentist’s chair, or, as mentioned above, they may feel scared of going to the dentist. Dr. Stukenberg has special dental tools and techniques that are designed with children in mind, to make the entire experience as quick and easy as possible.
When Should Kids Visit the Dentist for the First Time?
Dr. Stukenberg likes to see children and encourages them to seek routine dental treatment as soon as they have all of their baby teeth. One reason is that tooth decay (also called dental caries, or cavities) is the most common chronic disease among kids between the ages of 6 and 11 and among adolescents between the ages of 12 and 19. Another important reason for children to start visiting Dr. Stukenberg early on in life is that it helps establish good oral hygiene habits early, so they can maintain a healthy smile over a lifetime.
